What Are Push Presents?

I ran across several articles about 'push presents'. I must admit I did not know what that was and had to do some research.  A push present is a present an about to be father or partner gives a mother shortly after she gives birth. It can be shortly before the event as well or even in the delivery room.

A push present can be large or small. Some examples are necklaces, an additional band to complement her wedding band, personalized jewelry for the mom or about the event, a keepsake locket,  a designer watch, family heirlooms, or just about anything really.

Men and women are more often asking specifically about push presents.  Many times the couple is more established by the time they have children and the partner is ready to spend more on this present than the average present.

Because push presents are tied to an event it is not unusual to give a present or even charm with the baby's birthstone. Layered necklaces or heart necklaces seem to be a good choice too.

Sometimes dads even get push presents even though they aren't 'pushing' anything!

Push presents have and are becoming more popular in the United States.  When I was having my children I never heard of this so I went about asking my children if they had heard about it.

My children are in their 20's and 30's and I just don't remember hearing about push presents from them either. My oldest son is almost 40 and my youngest son is 25. Neither they or their spouses had heard of push presents.  It is a charming practice though.

  1. This is a lovely idea, and I definitely think women who have just given birth or are about to give birth deserve a present! However, I'd never heard of it before this article (and I'm 25), so thank you very much for sharing, I learned something today!
